Fond Farewells

Members of the lab wish to thank Julia Martin and Megan Freeman for their service over the last year. Julia was engaged in several of the lab’s community outreach activities while Megan was an integral part of several studies. Thank you Julia and Megan and good luck in your next endeavours!

Excellence in Research

Two members of the lab were recently recognized for their research work by the Faculty of Health Professions at Dalhousie. MSc student Alana Fleet was awarded the Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Research, while lab director Dr. Shaun Boe was awarded the Faculty’s Early Career Research Award. Congratulations to both Alana and Shaun.

More good news for Alana!

MSc student Alana Fleet’s next four years are now planned as she has accepted a seat in Medicine, Class of 2017 at Queen’s University. Alana will be defending her MSc thesis in early August just prior to leaving for Kingston.

A busy year is coming to an end for lab member Alana Fleet as she wraps up her term as President of the Dalhousie Association of Graduate Students. From student orientation to representing Dalhousie graduate students on many academic committees, Alana has done a fantastic job of lobbying for a great graduate student experience. Congratulations Alana on all your good work!

Representing the Student Perspective

Congratulations go out to lab members Ishika Sharma and Alicia Gionfriddo who were recently elected to positions in student government at Dalhousie. Ishika is the new Vice President (External Affairs) of the Dalhousie International Students’ Association, while Alicia is the new Operations Officer for the Dalhousie Association of Graduate Students.

A Shout out to Laura Keeler!

Congratulations go out to Laura Keeler, who was recently accepted into Dalhousie’s Community Health and Epidemiology MSc program. Laura will be starting her new 2-year program in the fall of 2013. Congratulations Laura!

NSERC Award Winner, Alicia Gionfriddo!

Congratulations are in order for Alicia Gionfriddo, who was recently awarded an NSERC CGS scholarship for her MSc project investigating how areas of the brain work together to produce movement. The NSERC CGS is awarded to the top-ranked applicants at each level of study (master’s and doctoral). Congratulations Alicia!

Lab Volunteers

The laboratory extends a welcome to two new volunteers, Laura Keeler and Julia Martin. Laura and Julia will be lending a hand toward a number of projects, including EEG studies examining brain activity and exercise.

New Additions

With its second intake of graduate students, the lab will be expanding this coming September. Three new MSc students will be joining the lab, including Ronald Bishop (from Memorial University, Newfoundland), Alicia Gionfriddo (from Brock University, Ontario), and Ishika Sharma (from the University of Dehli, India).

The lab would like to welcome a new research assistant, Megan Freeman. Megan, who will be starting at the beginning of July, joins the lab after completing a BA in Psychology at King’s University college at Western University.

Congratulations!

Members of the lab have had a lot to celebrate in the past couple of months:

Marion Che was accepted into Medicine at Dalhousie University. Marion will be starting in September after some world travel in July and August!

MSc student Alana Fleet was elected President of the Dalhousie Association of Graduate Students (DAGS). In addition to advancing the quality of graduate studies at Dalhousie, Alana also now gets a great discount at the Grad House!

Lastly, congratulations are in order for lab director Dr. Shaun Boe, who was recently awarded a Junior Career Research Award from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. This award dedicates 75% of Dr. Boe’s time to the research undertaken in the lab.
